AlgoTrim Launches Code Compression Library
AlgoTrim today launched the AlgoTrim Code Compression Library v1.2. The Code Compression Library will cut the cost for memory circuits by 50% for manufacturers of embedded devices like mobile phones. The decompression is extremely fast and when reading pages from slow media, such as flash memory, the performance can exceed that of a non-compressed paged memory system and allows for real-time fetching and decoding of compressed applications.
AlgoTrim's Code Compression Library is a unique, pure software solution where both compression and decompression is carried out by software modules, resulting in more than 50% reduction in code size. Typically, a large portion of the ROM image (in most cases all code and read-only data except the OS kernel) is compressed and tagged as such. An application is then decompressed by AlgoTrim's decode module in the OS kernel as it is requested for execution.
The system is currently designed for the 32-bit ARM instruction set architecture,. AlgoTrim builds the code compression system on a patent-pending loss-less compression method. The method is unique in that it allows for random access of compressed data, and in that the decompression is extremely fast — especially on 32-bit RISC microprocessors.
